The International Society Of Animal Recyclers Dead but not forgotten What is ISOAR? The International Society Of Animal Recyclers was formed by myself in Seattle, Washington, in 1999. Our current mission statement is: Through education and enthusiasm, we seek to prevent the destruction or dimissal of as many dead animals as possible.
Who Are You People, & Why Should I Care About Dead Animals?
Do you believe in recycling? We take unwanted parts of dead animals, and give them a second life as art, crafts, decor, and educational tools. Do you recycle cans, glass, and plastic? Please consider recycling animals, too. Recycling reduces landfill mass, and in some cases ISOAR can save you dumping and disposal fees. Did you know it is illegal to throw away certain dead things, such as human bones? Donations of hunting leftovers can mean less hunting by others to obtain the parts they want (leaving more animals for YOU to hunt!). Many people hunt for one part only (meat, antlers) and the rest goes to waste (skin, bones). Do you enjoy hunting but do not need ANY part of the animal? Does this make you feel guilty, or cause the spouse to nag you?
What Kinds Of Stuff Do You Want?
Any dry skulls, bones, antlers, claws, teeth, spines, or feathers.
Any tanned furs and leathers, or rawhides ("drum" type leather).
Any taxidermied animal including old or damaged ones, fish, reptiles, and birds.
Any human animal parts. People are animals too! Bones, hair, etc.
Beetles, insects, butterflies, owl pellets, bird nests.
Some fur or leather clothing, hats, and accessories.
many RAW animal parts such as untanned skins, uncleaned heads, frozen parts.
many whole dead animals such as roadkill, rogue animals, and culls. |
What Cant You Take? |
Living animals, at this time. Ask about edibles and exotics.
Some frozen diseased animals (list is being made). |
How Much Do You Pay For Things?
If you can afford to wait and sell your animal parts, that is great! We are not concerned with anything that you are not going to throw away, and we will not be able to pay you what an exciting item is worth. | BUT! please *do* contact us with an item you want to sell, with a price, and we will consider a purchase, look for a buyer, or help you to sell it with our informed suggestions. We dont know what you have til you tell us! |
How Do I Get Something To You? |
Contact us and tell us what you have. If we can, we will have it shipped or come out to get it. If that is not possible, we will ask if you can bring it to a collection point or hold it til we can make a run through your area. As the ISOAR membership base increases, we will have greater flexibility for you. | Bear in mind that we must prioritize our limited resources, and your items may or may not be at the very top of our listBUT! Do not assume your items are too common or are of no interest. We may have a very real need for those 3,000 chicken feet, or that bald cow skin, or the box of decrepit horse tack in the barn. |
Who Pays For Shipping and Other Expenses? | We will never refuse a package you have mailed to us, no matter what it contains. YOU made the effort, and WE will find good homes for what you send. |
We have limited resources and welcome you to mail or drive the items to us, but we are realistic enough that we do not ever expect you to do so.
We will arrange to pick up, or ship, everything that we can, at OUR expense. We are grateful for the donation of the items! If we are unable to retrieve them, we can help you to recycle the animal parts yourself, or ask you to hang onto them till we are able to make arrangements for them. Our goal is to give EVERY used animal a good home, but we are far too few to reach that goal right this very minute. Maybe next week... |
